In order to provide a more suitable place for the new congregation to worship, the US Army agreed to donate two quonset huts with the understanding that the church would assume full responsibility for remodeling them. People worked hard, and the first service in the new facility was held on New Years Eve, 1947. For the first seven years of its existence, the church was pastored by various chaplains provided by the US Military. The first civilian pastor, Paul Holloway, served from 1954-1956. Pastor Holloway was followed by Milton Leidig, who served from 1956-1969, and who still maintains the distinction of having he longest tenure of any of the church's pastors. Pastor Leidig was followed by Robert Hubbard in late 1969. It was during Pastor Hubbard's tenure that the church was notified that it must move from Curundu or disband. A special congregational meeting was called and the members voted to move. Land was obtained, and after much hard work the new church, Crossroads Bible Church, was officially dedicated to the Lord on March 11, 1973. Pastor Hubbard left the isthmus in 1973 and was followed by Gordon Gustafson, who served until 1977. It was during these years that the church parsonages were completed. When Pastor Gustafson left in 1977, Spencer Bower became the interim pastor. An initial commitment of six months turned into three years, and when Pastor Bower left in the summer of 1980 Cliff Daffron was Pastor Daffron left in 1984, at which time Bob Gunn, a missionary with Wycliffe Bible Translators, assumed the pastorate. When the Gunns finished their translation project and left Panama in 1988, Bill Johnson was called to be the pastor. After ten years at Crossroads Pastor Johnson returned to the US in the summer of 1998, at which time Bob Gunn along with his son Steve were called to shepherd the flock into the new millennium.
